Puffins
Recently, I was lucky enough to go to Skomer island with my day job....I have been before, but I was in my teens so don't really remember much about it. This time, we were blessed with the weather and the island did everything to sparkle and intrigue.
I came home with plenty of puffin photographs and an itch to capture a puffin in print! So here's a little run through in photographs...
(this one was pretty patchy on the inking, but I really liked the end result)
Adding the yellow
...and then the orange...
a little shadow
...and some contrast...
I think there's probably just one more ink layer to go and then hopefully this will be ready to list in my etsy shop.
I have always felt my linoprints have a more graphic feel, rather than the painterly style other lino artists achieve. I have spent a few years battling this, wanting to create something more photo-like, and then I see that really this is my style and when something works, I am pleased with it.
It can be a bit tricky to realise...well it is for me...but onwards and hopefully upwards!
