Bumblebees

Inspired by the Bunblebee Identification day at The Bug Farm, I decided to do a linoprint which appeared in my mind's eye as I was driving home that day. A quick sketch of the layout and then the design transferred to the lino, I was pretty quick to get the first buff colour down on the paper. The first inking was quickly followed by the next cut and the details beginning to emerge with a light grey. A further cut so that the detail wasn't obscured in the wings and some orange and yellow added at the next stage. And then a darker grey added and the design really starts to pull together. The final layer will be red on the two dark bumblebees to make them red-tailed bumblebees and perhaps even a little gold too.
